Rebel with a holiday…
Ryan Edward Brun—Rebel to his friends—has always loved Christmas. Whether raising money for Toys for Tots, delivering presents dressed up like Santa Claus or driving his platoon crazy with Christmas ‘surprises,’ he never lacked for Christmas spirit—until he lost his legs to an IED.
Operation Good Cheer…
Noël Torres has watched over Rebel for months, holding his hand when he wanted to give up, and bullying him when he got lazy. But with Christmas right around the corner and decorations filling every room in their wing of Mike’s Place, the barren oasis Rebel surrounds himself with breaks her heart. He won’t call his family, he’s not sending out cards, he won’t pull any pranks—she decides to get this Marine back into the holiday action.
An elf on a mission…
With the help of some kids, a few good Marines, and Santa Claus, Noël is determined to give Rebel a very Marine Christmas…
Have Yourself a Marine Christmas Always a Marine series Book 20 edition by Heather Long Literature Fiction eBooks
I drop in and out of his series constantly and I've never hand a 'what's going on?' feeling. As book 20 in the series, I think Long's writing continues to convey some of the angst and issues that many of us civilians assume what happens to our soldiers, be they male or female. This is a Christmas story but don't let that hold you back from reading out of the season.Ryan 'Rebel' Edward Brun is a year from his last deployment. He's been at Mike's Place convalescing since losing both legs, above the knees, to an IED. Having always been knows as the prankster in his group of friends and fellow soldiers, it's disconcerting to Noel Torres, his nurse case manager, that he's not enjoying the decorations and overall cheerful spirit of Christmas.
There's some issues with Rebel's mental acceptance of where he is in life. He was injured a little before Christmas the previous year and he's having some challenges with that, to me that was totally understandable. I liked the way Noel's knowledge of her patient didn't just include saying what Rebel wanted to hear. She challenged him by not always saying yes.
Their story was more about the journey of their relationship than it was about any outside forces getting in their way. And because it's a novella and really pretty short there's not too much development but there's enough that left me with a feel good HEA.
Happy reading folks!

Have Yourself a Marine Christmas Always a Marine series Book 20 edition by Heather Long Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Really liked thus book!!!!
Another winner by Heather. Have a definite soft spot for tough marines who fall in love with the tough ladies..lol
Some books tend to end too quickly. This is one. Because I thoroughly enjoyed Noel and Rebel's story so much, I wanted it to be longer. It still garners a 5 rating based on how well written it is.
The damage of war can be profound, it is what you do to survive after the battle. This book is a beautifully written and the characters are very strong. It open the eyes that handicap does not mean no passion. LOVE IT!!!!!
I really like the story. Rebel is a marine recovering from the lost of his legs. He is also having a problem getting into the Christmas spirit. Noel is Rebels case nurse. She brings the holiday spirit and love back into Rebel's life.
As far as writing styles go the author is very well written. The story idea is a wonderful one but the delivery is boring and the characters are under developed and very bland.
Too bad. I love IR romances that involve a disabled hero. This was such a big disappointment.
For the past year, Marine Sergeant Ryan "Rebel" Brun, a bilateral, below the knee amputee, was recuperating at Mike's Place. Under the watchful eye of his care nurse, Nöel Torres, who was not afraid to deliver tough love when he refused to comply with his treatment, Rebel's recovery progressed. His love of Christmas was lost, however, along with his legs.
In Have Yourself a Marine Christmas (Always a Marine), we learned that Nöel became the person Rebel trusted most, even when he reacted to any mention of Christmas like an angry bear. With a healthy dose of patience and compassion, Nöel helped Rebel move to an independent living apartment and their relationship became more intimate. Nöel feared that he was simply attached to her because she was his nurse. Rebel assured her that he was attracted to the woman she was - the only one who saw him as a whole man, not a disabled one.
Heather Long's talent in creating tortured, yet fully redeemable, multi-layered characters was evident in her development of Rebel. Even though he battled his own demons, he was able to help another wounded warrior begin the healing process, in the true spirit of those who have worn the uniform. Nöel and Rebel's individual and shared vulnerability was beautifully crafted. She found a man who loved her and he found his Nöel - the one who renewed his Christmas spirit. Their yearlong connection and building passion culminated in steamy, imaginative, sultry scenes that are Ms. Long's specialty.
Fans of the "Always a Marine" short story series will recognize cameos by beloved characters Cara and Derek from Marine with Benefits (1Night Stand Series) and Luke and Rebecca Dexter from Once Her Man, Always Her Man (1 Night Stand Series).
As with the rest of this holiday collection, proceeds from this book will benefit "Toys for Tots." Please buy this book and give it to your friends. Pay Rebel and Nöel's story forward, as a reminder of the true spirit of the holidays.
